WEEK ONE
Abstract & Argument
In this first session, we tackle the abstract: your road map to writing your journal paper. The abstract is a brief but comprehensive summary of your research paper.
You then articulate your core argument. The focus is on being explicit about the purpose of your paper—your important idea. This is the single most important task needed to organize your paper.
The schedule is planned as follows:
- 15 min introductions
- 15 min kick-start abstract (16 min. video)
- 30 min abstract writing
- 60 min sharing and one-on-one instructor check-in
- 30 min kick-start argument (25 min. video)
- 30 min argument exercise
- 60 min sharing and one-on-one instructor check-in
- 30 min group Q&A

You can watch video teasers in the library!

WEEK TWO
Structure & Literature Review
In the second session, we dive into a major hurdle in writing a publishable paper, which is building structure. This week lays the foundation for writing your paper.
Probably the most difficult section to write, we dedicate the remainder of this session to the introduction and literature review. The aim is to engage the discourse as it relates to your core argument.
The schedule is planned as follows:
- 30 min kick-start structure (30 min. video)
- 30 min structure outline
- 60 min sharing and one-on-one instructor check-in
- 45 min kick-start intro / lit rev (46 min. video)
- 45 min intro / lit rev exercise
- 60 min sharing and one-on-one instructor check-in
- 30 min group Q&A & next steps

Structure is everything!

Hello! I'm Jessica...
I'll be your bootcamp instructor. I'm a teacher, writer, and social scientist who loves walking around the city with my camera. After two decades on the academic track working on post-graduate degrees then slogging along the coveted tenure-track at a highly intense, high-ranking university, I realized I was climbing the wrong mountain. Now I want to help others along their academic path with one of the biggest hurdles: getting published. I truly believe we all have something to contribute to our global knowledge and I am passionate about helping you get your voice published.
