Your paper has its own route.

Let's find it.

Publish It! Ten weeks of 1:1 support to take your analyzed data to a manuscript ready for submission, on a route drawn for your paper.

About 16 hours of direct work with me. A clear plan for whatever the editor sends back. And a writing process you'll use on the next paper.

Beta price: $500. The program will be $2,000 after this cohort. In exchange for the founding price, I ask for honest feedback along the way and a testimonial if it works.

Book your 20-minute fit call

Publishing a paper doesn't fit a calendar.

IMRaD tells you where everything goes in the finished paper. Nobody writes it in that order, though most of us try. You start at the introduction, write forward, and lose the thread somewhere around the discussion. That's because you're introducing an argument you haven't finished making.

The Iterative IMRaD is how we work instead. Your core argument comes first, in a single sentence. Then we move back and forth across the sections, writing the easiest parts first and building the evidence that holds the argument up. The hard sections usually get easier once the easy ones have clarified your thinking. (I've watched this happen often enough to stop being surprised by it.)

The ten weeks below are the default route, and your 1:1s rearrange it. Every module is open from day one, so if your argument is hiding in your discussion, we start there.

What my support is for

Each week I read where the paper is and decide with you what it needs next. That usually involves more than one of three things.

Mindset. The block that shows up every time you open the file. The dread before you open reviewer comments. Knowing when a section is done enough to leave alone. When a week goes sideways, tell me. We'll decide together whether it waits for your next session or needs a short conversation sooner.

Habits. A writing plan built for the life you actually have, time you protect, and the weekly Write With Me session when you'd rather not write alone.

The writing itself. Your core argument and the ideas carrying it. What belongs in each section and what's competing with your logic thread. How you sound on the page, and the language patterns that get in your way. This is coaching on your voice; it doesn't include a line-by-line copy-edit.

"

[Jessica] would step in at the moments I was most stuck and precisely ask the right question — the one I hadn't thought to ask myself — and suddenly what was missing would become visible to me.

"

Harpreet Kaur, Independent Researcher, India

Who is this for?

You've done the research.

Your analysis is finished, or close enough that what's left is confirming what you already found.

That threshold matters because your core argument comes out of your results. We can't name what your paper claims until you know what you found. While you're writing the results, you may find one more test or one more cut of the data would make the evidence clearer. That's a normal part of the work. Having months of analysis still ahead of you is a different situation, and the fit call is where we'll work out which one you're in.

At the beginning, in the middle, or close to the end.

Your paper might be a blank document with results sitting in a folder, a draft that stalled halfway through, or a paper that came back rejected and needs a new home. All three work here.

This is for researchers at any stage.

PhD students preparing a first submission, early- and mid-career academics, practitioners publishing from outside a university, and independent researchers. If you're writing in English as an additional language, it was built with you in mind. Most of what makes publishing hard was never written down for anyone, and it's harder still to pick up in your second language.

The 10 Weeks

This is the default route. Each week comes with a short video, an interactive page that covers the same material in a form you can skim, and a workbook. Use whichever one you'll actually open. The 1:1 sessions are where the route bends around your paper.

WEEK ONE (Dec 6-12)

Focus: Your roadmap, core argument, abstract

1:1 with me:

  • Writing plan & expectations
  • Core argument clarity

Your writing time: 3-5 hours*

*Writing times are an estimate and not a guarantee.

WEEK TWO (Dec 13-19)

Focus: Model papers, structure, finding your journal

1:1 with me:

  • Abstract edit
  • Dissect model papers & journal shortlist

Your writing time: 3-5 hours*

WEEK THREE (Dec 20 - Jan 2)

Focus: Introduction, literature review, optional conceptual framework

1:1 with me:

  • Introduction outline (Dec 21-23)

Your writing time: 6-10 hours with time built in for the holidays*

WEEK FOUR (Jan 3-9)

Focus: Results as evidence

1:1 with me:

  • Introduction edit
  • Outlining your results (optional selecting figures & tables)

Your writing time: 4-10 hours*

WEEK FIVE (Jan 10-16)

Focus: Methods

1:1 with me:

  • Mapping methods to results

Your writing time: 3-6 hours*

WEEK SIX (Jan 17-23)

Focus: Discussion

1:1 with me:

  • Outlining the discussion section
  • Methods-results-discussion edit

Your writing time: 3-5 hours*

WEEK SEVEN (Jan 24-30)

Focus: Opening, closing, and everything in between

1:1 with me:

  • Full developmental edit of your manuscript

Your writing time: 3-4 hours*

WEEK EIGHT (Jan 30 - Feb 6)

Focus: Send your draft to readers; start submission materials

1:1 with me:

  • Your language patterns on the page

Your writing time: 2-3 hours*

WEEK NINE (Feb 7-13)

Focus: Paper is out for feedback; finish submission materials

1:1 with me:

  • Journal requirements and cover letter

Your writing time: 2-3 hours*

WEEK TEN (Feb 14-20)

Focus: Revise from feedback, final edit, submit, and what comes next

1:1 with me:

  • Final coaching and your plan for the editor's reply

Your writing time: 4-6 hours*

Weeks 8 and 9 are hands off the manuscript. It's with your readers. You'll spend that time on submission materials, so when the feedback comes back, everything else is ready.

Week 3 runs over the holidays. It's mostly self-paced, and I'm offline Dec 24–25 and Dec 30–Jan 2. Your introduction draft is due Jan 4, so you get the break and a deadline that isn't hanging over it.

Your full draft is due January 30, so it's back from my developmental edit and out to your readers in week 8. If you're ready sooner, send it sooner.

You don't have to submit by week 10. Some people will. Others will be waiting on a co-author, revising one more pass, or not quite there yet. Week 10 prepares you for what happens after submission either way.

*Writing times are an estimate and not a guarantee. Writing time doesn't include videos or Write With Me. Weeks 3 and 4 are the heaviest, when the introduction and results take shape. If you teach, plan around them.

What's also included

About 16 hours of 1:1 work with me. Outlining sessions before you write, developmental edits on your introduction, discussion and full manuscript, and coaching at each turn in the route. Every session ends with a clear next step.

Decision Support, through August 31, 2028. The editor's letter usually arrives months after the program ends, often when you're least ready for it. For the paper you write here:

  • For each revise-and-resubmit, up to two rounds:
    • A translation of what reviewers are actually asking for, within 72 hours of you forwarding the letter.
    • A one-hour session within 14 days to decode the comments and set your resubmission date.
    • A 30-minute check-in halfway through.
    • A review of your response to reviewers before it goes back.
  • If it's rejected: a one-hour session to redirect the paper to the next journal on your shortlist.
  • Access to Revise & Resubmit It! the whole time.

After two rounds, or after August 2028, you can keep working with me at the alumni rate of $90 an hour.

Every module three ways

All open from day one. A video, an interactive page and a workbook, yours for the life of the website.

Write with me, twice a week

Tuesdays at 9:00 AM and Thursdays at 8:30 PM Mountain Time, so one of them should land at a reasonable hour wherever you are. An hour of quiet writing with other researchers, then 30 minutes of open Q&A. It's optional: come when it helps.

The Watering Hole

A private discussion board for questions, progress and the occasional complaint about Reviewer 2. It stays open after the program ends.

An optional line-by-line copy-edit

This isn't part of the program, but it's available as an add-on at the alumni rate if you want one before you submit. I don't use AI on client manuscripts, ever.

WHY $500

This is the first run of Publish It! in this form. Everything is included in full: the 1:1 work, every module, and Decision Support. I'll be paying close attention to where things click and where people get stuck, and changing what doesn't work. You may find rough edges. When you do, tell me.

That's what the founding price is for. In exchange, I ask you to:

  • Do the work across all ten weeks, and show up to your 1:1s.
  • Answer a few short questions at the start, midway through, and at the end: where this helped, and where it lost you.
  • Give a testimonial if it works. One at week 10 about the process, and, if you're willing, another when your paper is accepted.

There are no refunds once we start. The first two weeks alone are close to $500 of 1:1 work, which is why the fit call comes first: we decide together before you pay. Before we begin, you'll sign a short beta agreement covering all of this and how your 1:1 hours work.

"

Your approach of guiding my thinking with questions was especially helpful—while you might provide an answer at the moment, I continued to seek new solutions in different contexts. I also appreciate our weekly meetings, which pushed me to summarize my challenges and reflect on my progress, fostering deeper thinking and greater improvement in my writing.

"

Li Wenpei, PhD Candidate, National University of Singapore

"

I believe that academic publication is rarely a smooth journey for anyone, particularly for beginners from non-English-speaking countries. I was fortunate to have met my tutor, Jessica, who provided me with a great deal of practical guidance on academic writing in English, as well as on the conventions of scholarly publication. With her support, my work was able to be successfully published, for which I am deeply grateful.

"

Xu Huibo, PhD Candidate, Harbin Institute of Technology, China

"

Being mentored by Jessica was such an eye-opening experience. I value our hands on experience together because in the end, I learned so much more than formal mentoring sessions. I appreciate that I was given the right balance between freedom of exploration and clear directions. I wouldn’t have published (or even tried to) a paper on urban agriculture without Jessica's support.

"

Amanda Chandra, Landscape Architect, Singapore

"

I just received the acceptance notification and am absolutely thrilled to see our paper officially published. Thank you again for making this publication possible—it has been an incredible learning experience!"

Your leadership throughout this journey has been invaluable.

"

J. Chen, Independent Researcher, China

Hi, I'm Jessica.

But you probably already knew that. What you might not know is that I've peer-reviewed for 46 journals, so I read your draft the way a reviewer will, while there's still time to change it.

I spent seven years as an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore, published 25 papers, and mentored 22 graduate students through publication, many of them writing in a second language. Before that, I trained and taught in design, where iteration is simply how things get made. The Iterative IMRaD comes from there.

I left the tenure track because I was climbing the wrong mountain. I kept the part I was good at.

More about me

$500, paid once.

At my regular rate of $125 an hour, the 1:1 time alone comes to more than $2,000. Decision Support, the course materials, Write With Me and the Watering Hole come on top of that.

When Publish It! reopens after this cohort, it will be $2,000. The $500 price is for this group, in exchange for the feedback described above.

There are no refunds once we start, which is why the fit call comes first.
